Sleeping driver on Catron Boulevard caught with heroin

It was no surprise that a man who parked a car in the middle of the road was caught by police.

Early Tuesday morning, an officer came upon a car parked in the middle of an on-ramp at the intersection of East Catron Boulevard and Cambell Street. The vehicle was not running, and the driver was slumped over in his seat.

The officer woke the driver and confirmed he was not experiencing a medical issue. Then began a DUI investigation, through which the officer determined that the driver was indeed impaired.

This led to a search of the vehicle, which turned up a burnt spoon with residue that tested positive for heroin.

The driver, identified as 23-year-old Shane Ryan of Keystone, was arrested for: DUI, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Ryan was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
