WAVI address violence, assault issues during open house

RAPID CITY, S.D. -

Working Against Violence, Inc. invited the entire community for an open house Thursday. Visitors were able to tour the facility, meet the staff, and gain information about WAVI and their services.

WAVI also took the opportunity to thank the community and their partners for another year of support in the efforts to end domestic violence and sexual assault in Western South Dakota. Community Outreach Director Brian Munsell says the open house comes at one of the busiest times for the organization.

"The numbers kind of tend to spike this time of year all the way through kind of the winter months. Unfortunately, the Super Bowl is one of the biggest - it's probably the biggest domestic violence day of the year."

Fortunately, Munsell says WAVI sees more donations during the holiday season.

During 2015, WAVI had over 31,000 direct services in the community.
