BHSU offers quicker, cheaper college degree plan

Posted: Updated:

Before students pick their classes for the fall semester, Black Hills State University is spreading the word about a program for students in their junior year of high school, that allows them to complete their college degree at the BHSU for only $15,005.

The Early Jacket Program is an education plan that any junior in the state of South Dakota can use. Students take the Dual Credit Option to earn college credits for their junior and senior year. Then, if they live at home and take two more years of classes at BHSU, they save a significant amount of money on tuition. The average cost of a Bachelor's Degree at BHSU is $32,016, rising to $40,002 at Black Hills State University-Rapid City.

"We want individuals to really choose the University after high school. I think for those parents looking how they are going to fund that investment, this is one of those ways. Put a little bit of money in here, and their sons and daughters are going to do very well in their life," said BHSU President Tom Jackson.

This is the third year of the program, and families are catching on to this creative approach at earning a degree quickly. For more information on the program, go online to view course descriptions, the dual credit program and course plans.
