Meteorologist/General Assignment Reporter

NewsCenter1 (KNBN-TV) has an immediate opening for a talented meteorologist with strong reporting skills to join the four-person meteorology staff of an energetic small-market news team in a climatologically active region.

This candidate will contribute to daily news by reporting on general news content, and will be responsible for updating the station weather app, website and social media outlets. The successful candidate will be comfortable handling all news situations, including: reporting, forecasting, severe weather reporting from the field and/or in studio.

This is a "one-man-band" style position, offering experience in shooting, writing, editing and reporting. This person will produce and present the weather for our weekend shows, and fill in as needed during vacations, sick days, holidays and breaking weather situations.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Shoot and cover scheduled or breaking news events, as assigned
  2. Write copy and edit video and sound for assigned stories
  3. Produce and present forecasts for a dynamic weather region, as assigned
  4. Produce forecast updates for NewsCenter1 website, weather app, and social media
  5. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in meteorology with concentration in journalism, communications, or related degree field, or commensurate work experience
  2. Strong written and visual storytelling skills
  3. Ability to make highly technical information understandable by laymen
  4. 1-2 years newsroom experience, or appropriate collegiate experience
  5. A working knowledge of Adobe Premier Pro or similar non-linear editing system is preferred but not required
  6. Experience working with WSI TruVu Max is preferred.
