Some people in Rapid City are putting kids first and getting recognized for it.
Friday afternoon, the Black Hills Champion for Children luncheon took place in Rapid City.
The event recognizes different leaders and organizations for their commitment to kids and helping kids.
Folks involved in Friday’s event say it's a great honor to take part, especially because it involves having a voice for kids.
Pam Teaney Thomas, of Black Hills Champions for Children, says, “Children don't have a voice in our community, and so it's important we stand up for them, whether it's policy or programs and different things. I ended up working a lot in drug and alcohol prevention."
