Mining Summit Held At SDSM&T

Mining leaders from across the nation are meeting at the School of Mines this week to learn business techniques from some of the industry’s best.

This year is the Fifth International Summit of Mining Performance and the first time it’s been held in Rapid City.

The conference was organized by Penn State and is put on every other year in order to share ideas on improving efficiencies within the mining industry.

Professionals from across the U.S. were in attendance, but many came from mining companies in nearby Gillette, Wyoming, each one to learn how to conduct better business.

Dr. Andrew Schissler, director of the summit, says, "The fact that a business, whether its mining, or any kind of an entity needs to focus on continuous improvement and the challenge of improving a business, and in fact improving anything is to sustain that improvement."

Two hundred people attended this year’s summit, which organizers say is a record.
