Ask any new mom about losing baby weight and she'll tell you it's not easy.
But, there's a new workout program in Rapid City, where new moms and their kids are walking off their weight one step at a time.
These stroller moms may be inside the Rushmore Mall but, there's no shopping going on they're stepping and lunging getting a full body stroller workout without leaving their kids at home.
Certified stroller instructor Heather Dressler came up with the class “Stroller Strong” as a way to reclaim her pre-baby body without having to deal with a sitter or miss out on time with her son Kannon since she and many of these moms work full time.
Stroller Strong Instructor Heather Dressler says, “It's a way for mom's to get their workout in, without having to leave their child.”
The mom's and kids get to socialize with each other, some have fun, while others, well they are babies, and need a good cry.
Molly Thaler has been Stroller Strong since May.
On this day she has her son Sullivan, but she says she rotates in each of her 3 kids for special mommy and me time.
Stroller Strong Participant Molly Thaler says, “It's much easier when you can bring your child along and you know some of them start crying, we're used to that, we just hold ‘em, yep they're good.”
Don't think the stroller workout is just a walk in the park, a stroller can weigh about 50 pounds then you add in a baby like Anna, she’s 10 pounds, and then if they're older 30, 40, 50 pounds, that's a lot of resistance.
“Throughout the months he's gotten heavier and I’ve worked out harder,” adds Dressler.
And it's paying off, she's lost the 50 pounds she gained during pregnancy and then some, and it was all due to the class.
And she says if other family members want to join in on the fitness fun they're welcome as well.
“I’ve actually had a couple grandparents come and an aunt and they thought it was great full body training,” concludes Dressler.
Once the weather gets nicer the class moves outside to Storybook Island.
