Miss South Dakota is spreading her message against distracted driving throughout our state.
She brought her message to teens at South Middle School. Some teens have just recently gotten behind the wheel of a car for the first time, while others are still too young.
Miss South Dakota 2010, Loren Vaillancourt, wants them to know just how dangerous distracted driving can be.
Loren lost her brother because of a distracted driver. She shared that story with students so they realize how important it is to start forming good driving habits at an early age.
Miss South Dakota 2010 Loren Vaillancourt says, "We'll any habits that truly are formed, start when you are just learning how to drive, so it's especially important to talk to these students that are looking to drive very soon or are actually starting to drive, to stop the bad habits from forming in the first place."
Loren is not only speaking out against texting and driving, but any form of distracted driving. She says it's also the responsibility of the passenger to not become a distraction for the driver themselves.
There are currently no laws against distracted driving in South Dakota.
