Democratic gubernatorial candidate Scott Heidepriem says South Dakota has not done enough under Republican Governor Mike Rounds to promote the use of renewable fuels or encourage the growth of wind energy.
In a debate Saturday at the state fair in Huron, Heidepriem said the state government should use more ethanol in its vehicles. He also criticized Rounds for opposing tax incentives for large wind farms.
But the republican candidate for governor, Lieutenant Governor Dennis Daugaard says ethanol production and the construction of wind farms have grown drastically in the eight years he and Rounds have been in office. Daugaard says the state buys vehicles that can use a mix of both ethanol and gasoline.
