The price of pork is going up which is leaving producers with a hefty profit.
The South Dakota Pork Producer Association says farmers are raising fewer hogs and sending more overseas.
At the South Dakota State Fair, it's taking a toll for those who are eating the food and showing their pigs.
The pork stand is bustling with business, but this year people are having to fork over a little extra cash in order to savor that sandwich.
“We actually had to increase our prices this year a little bit because the price of meat was up a little bit,” says Steve Ormmerein, Pork Producers President.
After several tough years in the pork industry, there are fewer producers, but the long lines at the food stand make it obvious that there is there a demand.
A shortage of meat means higher prices, although some young farmers might not understand it.
The hog wild prices are not so bad for everyone.
The selling price per pound has doubled since last year, so when the farmers take these little piggies to the market, they will be getting nearly $200
The young farmers will be fattening up their bank accounts from the porky profits, and keeping the producers in big business for a little while longer.
