Summer is winding down and for those that have spent the last few months hard at work in their gardens that means it's time to reap the rewards of their harvest.
All fifteen plots at the Lemmon Avenue Garden are currently tended to by area residents and local organizations such as "The Boys Club" and "Girl’s Inc."
Those involved with the garden are currently celebrating one year of success.
Money for the garden came from "The Neighborhood Stablization Program", which was a federal loan received by Neighborworks Dakota Home Resources in 2009.
The purpose of the garden is to get neighbors together in order to create a safer community.
RCPD Lt. Karl Jegeris says, "Since people are getting to know each other, they are starting to really look out for each other, and for example if somebody is out of town all of their neighbors know that they are out of town because they have discussed it in the garden and they know how long they are going to be gone, and when they are going to be back, and they are just keeping an eye out for each other."
One way the neighbors get to know each other is by meeting in the garden for monthly picnics.
