Volunteers Lend a Hand

Volunteers went out and helped all kinds of people with a lot of different projects.

With one group of volunteers helping out some elderly folks who say it's hard to do some work around the house themselves.

Lorraine Weimer and Alfred her husband says, "When I was younger it didn't take as much work as it does now"

It's all this work that adds up that's why Alfred Weimer and his wife Lorraine are getting some help around the house from these volunteers.

Its labor intensive work the Weimers can't do any longer on their one acre property.

Home Owner Lorraine Weimer says, "My husband has bone cancer, and I have been sick the last few weeks so this has been great for people to come out and help us."

Volunteers are helping out with odds and ends around the house.  which are tough for the Weimers to do. Like painting the trim, picking weeds and even raking.

"It means a lot more than we could ever explain it just means a lot," adds the Weimers.

And it also means a lot for these volunteers to take care of the job.

Volunteer Kathy Lees says, "We'll all go back and we'll talk about this for the rest of the year.  So I think it's a good thing for the community to get out."

Kathy says she's volunteered for several years now along with her co-workers from Midwest Marketing.

She says it's always a great feeling to help someone in need.

“And they just like to sit and chat and talk about their lives, but they just really appreciate the community coming out and helping when they can't do it themselves," adds Lees.

The Weimers say this volunteer work is a huge relief.

Loraine adds “It's a big place we kind of want to stay here but it's hard for us to keep it up."

So the Weimers leave it to the volunteers, that way Alfred and Lorraine can enjoy their home, and take pride in it, just as these volunteers are taking pride in helping out.

Now Alfred didn't leave all the work to the volunteers he actually put on the work gloves and lended a helping hand.

While Lorraine baked some goodies for those volunteers for later.
