Rapid City was flooded with nearly 1,000 volunteers helping out for numerous non-profits, elderly, or disabled throughout the town Thursday afternoon.
And Thursday we helped kick off the day of caring.
It was a sea of orange as hundreds of volunteers wearing live united t-shirts gathered at the civic center to get pumped up for the united way's annual event.
After a free lunch volunteers headed out into the community to do good deeds.
And as the need grows every year, so does the number of volunteers wanting to help out.
United Way Executive Director Renee Parker says, "What we're finding is when people give back in this way, it just catches on and they just want to do it again and again. It's just like a snowball and that’s why this has grown each year. It feels good to help other people."
This is also the kick off for the annual fundraising campaign to benefit 49 agencies throughout the Black Hills extending from Belle Fourche to Edgemont and everywhere in between.
Rapid City's goal is 1910 in 2010 that's $1,910,000.
