We're just a few short days away from the last long summer weekend, and this summer AAA is expecting an increase over last year in the number of people looking to hit the road.
According to AAA, travel in South Dakota is expected to increase by 11 percent which is one percent higher than nationwide increase.
More than 90 percent of those travelers will be driving, which AAA representatives attribute to the affordability of a road trip over air travel.
The Branch Manager of AAA Travel, Rhonda Keller, says, "People can just get in their car come out to the Black Hills or they can go down to Colorado, just strictly in a state-by-state radius for the weekend."
Gas prices are also about the same as last year while airlines have increased fares since this time last year. Travelers are also expected to spend an average of $50 more at their destination this year.
