The State Department of Transportation is looking at changes to a busy west Rapid City road. But nearby businesses aren't so sure about the plan that was revealed Tuesday night.
Business owners say the change in traffic flow on Jackson Boulevard and Mountain View could have an effect on consumer traffic to businesses located on Jackson.
The Department of Transportation proposed two options at Tuesday night's meeting. One would keep Jackson Boulevard as the main route, but would remove five on-street parking spots. The second would funnel traffic onto Mountain View Road and save all on street parking.
Lynn Delameter, with the Total Sleep Center, says, "The changes they make have got to be minimum to keep our traffic flow, to keep our parking good, and keep the business on Jackson Boulevard open. That is very important to Rapid City and to our economy."
The final decision will be made by DOT officials in Pierre sometime in the next month. Construction for the project is scheduled to begin in late 2011 and could last about two years.
