This Friday, the Sturgis football team will look to do something it hasn't done in over 13 years: start the season 2-0.
The Scoopers will travel to Rapid City to take on the Central Cobblers, a team they lost to last year by a score of 13-7.
Sturgis won its season opener last Saturday by beating Brandon Valley 27-13. The Scoopers were led by Clint Wilson who carried the ball 31 times for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, senior fullback Brian Cooley added two more scores for Sturgis. Head Coach Rod Richardson was pleased with the way his team played on both sides of the ball.
Richardson says, "I'd say this was the first time we've had a total team effort in a couple years I've been here. I mean we've relied on our defense a lot the last couple of years. This year our defense, but our offense really came out and played pretty well this week."
Once again the Rushmore Bowl will take place this Friday at O'Harra Stadium.
The first game features Spearfish and Rapid City Stevens at 5:00 p.m.
Sturgis and Rapid City Central will square off in the second game which is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m.
