Telephone Technology: An Unstoppable Force

It's hard to keep up with all the changing technology.  It seems like every few months a company comes up with the latest greatest thing.  This past weekend marked the 10 year anniversary of Verizon's coverage in South Dakota, and phone technology has changed a lot.

Computer Village Owner, Jim Hadd, said, "Machines are definitely at least 15 times faster now than they were back then."

Our lives are filled with media and technology.  It seems most of us can't get on the computer without checking Facebook or browsing the web, and phones aren't immune to the changing times.

Cell phone user, Gayla Slaughter, said, “I mean we're spoiled.  I think we could live without it, but it is convenient and nice to have access to a lot of information in your pocket."

But, a phone isn't just a phone, it's a combination of many devices.

"In the past ten years technology has come a long way.  Life without a cell phone seems nearly impossible and jobs that used to take all of these things to do, now can be done right on your smartphone," said Gayla.  "They are basically little portable computers now."

While it's sometimes confusing, Gayla and other modern cell phone users are excited about the changes.

"Well it is crazy when you think about the old computers having the huge box processors and now that's contained in a phone you put in your pocket, it's pretty amazing actually," said Gayla.

Verizon Wireless Manager, Tim Crohn, said, "Just seeing how much our technologies changed and went forward, back when it's so exciting to take pictures on your phone and now you can watch 2 hour movies on your phone is pretty ecstatic."

With so many changes happening in the past decade, think of the possibilities in the next 10 years.  There are over 1 60,000 applications you can add to your phone, depending on what type you own and who your provider is.
