The rally isn't just a local event for the City of Sturgis anymore.
It's actually a regional event.
Stores in Hill City see much of the overflow from the rally, and store employees are hard at work getting ready for the waves of tourists coming into the area.
"We almost triple our staff during that time period and bring in a lot of special merchandise. The city up here in Hill City just like in Sturgis blocks off Main Street and allows bike parking only down in Main," says Harley Store manager, Ken Ellis.
"Hopefully the tourism is going higher. You know there are economic problems and the recession and stuff like that. We are expecting about 1 million tourists," says store manager, Leo Lamota.
Most people go to see Sturgis for the rally experience, but since there is so much to see in the hills, many communities are working just as hard preparing for rally tourists.
