Governor Rounds continued his visit overseas on Friday.
On Thursday he was in Iraq. On Friday morning Rounds flew to Afghanistan and met with South Dakota soldiers from the 196th National Guard Unit.
Governor Rounds says when he visits war zones like Iraq or Afghanistan, it's always a reminder that we are at war and the conditions are very tough.
On a positive note, Rounds says he took part in an awards ceremony where four soldiers were recognized with a Combat Action Badge and 70 South Dakota soldiers took part in the ceremony.
Governor Mike Rounds says, "It's very much my privilege but they are fired up they are ready to go. They understand their mission and for me it's great to see this young generation of people grabbing a hold and taking charge and really oriented on the mission and safety."
Rounds will visit with 50 more South Dakota soldiers on Saturday along with General Petraeus about the war effort and the changes occurring.
The governor also visited a trauma hospital which helps wounded soldiers. He says the hospital sees a 98 percent success rate.
