WAVI Teaches About Technology Violence

Social networking sites on the internet and text messages are a great way to keep in touch with people.

Some teenagers often take that too far, and for many the technology is a way to keep track of their partner all the time.

Some people say text messages and other types of texts are abusive.

The executive director at WAVI in Rapid City says when WAVI holds informational sessions about domestic and dating violence.

Teens tell those at WAVI, their boyfriend or in some cases girlfriend are keeping tabs with the technology.

Those at WAVI say that kind of behavior is not healthy because it's not necessary for someone to know where you are at all times.

“With technology it's, I guess I would see it as controlling, texting, the internet, Facebook.  You know needing to know where your partner is at all times and a lot of texting going on.  I think that's an example we see going on,” says Mary Corbine, executive director.
