United States Post Office is considering moving to a five day delivery service. Many people say that's an inconvenience they simply can't afford, especially if they live in the rural areas of the state.
Having mail delivered to your house on Saturdays is something that the post office might have to cut to save money.
Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin says she wants to look into other alternatives before committing to the postal cuts. But US house candidate Kristi Noem says the issue is the government overspending that's causing the need for cuts.
Noem says, "Again, it's getting hard for our government to spend dollars if we are spending dollars on things that aren't important bailing out companies that we shouldn't bail out because we determined they're too big to fail. Then services that go to the public that they depend on that are no longer there because our government has decided to spend dollars that they shouldn't have."
Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin said, "The concern that I hear among rural South Dakotans is that they would have to carry a disproportionate share of the burden if we moved to five day delivery so while I think everyone recognizes the need to tighten the belt I don't want my constituents to be unfairly treated in the process and that's why I think other alternatives should be more fully evaluated."
