Kristi Noem Leads in the Polls

It's less than six months away from the November election and the battle for the lone U.S. House seat is heating up.

Recent polls show Republican Kristi Noem is still leading incumbent Democrat Stephanie Herseth Sandlin.

On Thursday Kristi Noem made her way to Rapid City.  She says meeting with groups from the state will help her keep her lead going into the election this fall.

But Herseth Sandlin says she is focusing on her work in Washington instead of focusing on campaigning.

Stephanie Herseth Sandlin says, “I think I'm going to do what I've done in the past and that is stay focused on my work for South Dakota and aggressively campaign later this summer and fall to talk about my strong bipartisan record that reflects I'm an independent voice for South Dakota."

Kristi Noem says, "Talking and meeting with the people of South Dakota.  They want to know someone is willing to take the time to meet with them, to have a conversation about concerns they have.  They're very concerned about the economy, about the fact that this congress hasn't brought fourth a budget and they want jobs."

A representative with Kristi Noem’s campaign says she is looking forward to having public debates with the incumbent.
