Vaillancourt Prepares for Miss America
This year's Miss South Dakota has been crowned, and she's already busy preparing for the Miss America Pageant.
Loren Vaillancourt says she has competed for the Miss South Dakota title before and lost, but this year she credits her win to a determination she didn't have before.
She says her brother was killed in a car accident last year because the driver was distracted possibly because the driver was texting.
Now she wants to use her new position to spread the message about distracted driving and she is working to get legislation passed in South Dakota.
“Everyone is required to have a platform something that they care about something that really motivates them. I love doing pageants; it was hard to find time. I knew I had this tremendous opportunity to make a difference in other people’s lives and I’m going to take advantage of it,” says Vaillancourt.
South Dakota teen drivers have been rated the worst in the nation, and right now it is still legal to text and drive in our state.
