Security Update at the Civic Center

Management at the Civic Center is increasing security.

That new security system will include more than 60 high definition cameras, at a cost of $160,000.

Managers at the Civic Center say more and more people are coming through the doors each year, and the new system will help keep you safe.

The Rushmore Plaza Civic Center is the center of it all from concerts to meetings, and even Rush hockey games, more than a million people come through the doors each year.

"The whole purpose of this surveillance system is to enhance the experience of our patrons that come through the building, and that number increases each and every year," says Tracy Heitsch, assistant general manager.

The new security system will allow managers to access the IP-based system from a computer and monitor specific areas.

“So we will have them all throughout the building, also on the exterior of the building over-viewing parking lots all entrances, concourse areas, food areas, all money handling areas," says Heitsch.

Those at the Civic Center say while you are enjoying an event, there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes you don't see.

“This will just enhance the opportunity and they won’t have to worry about being safe and secure it'll just be part of our system," says Heitsch.

Something those at the Civic Center say will be routine beginning in Sept. when the system is up and running.

The Civic Center will also get a new keyless entry system.

The system reduces the need for physical keys, and will reduce the risk of a key falling into the wrong hands.

The security system will be paid for by a bond the board of directors acquired to make infrastructure improvements.
