A South Dakota Democratic Party official has criticized Republican Governor Mike Rounds for not doing enough to increase the use of ethanol in state government vehicles.
Democratic Party Executive Director Erin Mccarrick says only three state fueling stations dispense blends of 85 percent ethanol, only 40 percent of state government's cars and trucks are flex fuel vehicles, and nearly half the gasoline bought by state government is not an ethanol blend. But state officials say about 80 percent of the gasoline used by state vehicles in the first 11 months of the most recent budget year was an ethanol blend. They say state government has been unable to buy more flex fuel vehicles in the past two years because of budget constraints.
