Talking politics, the economy, or just shooting the breeze. That's what happens at the local coffee shop every day. And while many coffee clicks have similar discussions, News Center 1 wanted to know what the biggest concerns were in individual Black Hills towns.
It was afternoon coffee time in Custer, and three ladies had plenty to talk about, it was usually light hearted, but they did have concerns facing people in their small southern hills town.
One of the biggest was healthcare reform, which brought mixed feelings.
Margaret Tretheway said, “We can take this(bill) that's been passed and we look at it and tear into it, and find ways to change it, but we had to start someplace.”
Cherry Luithens said, “I think until everything is clear as to exactly what's going to happen, I think there are a lot of issues that I'm very nervous about as to what it really means and what's going to happen.”
Clarinne Koeppe says, “Something has to change and like Margaret says, we need to start it now and granted there's going to be problems but we need to start now and go somewhere with it and help the people.”
They were also concerned about recent budget cuts to education and the future of the Black Hills Playhouse. But for the most part they say life is good, and Custer is a good place to live.
Next time on coffee talk we'll head to Hill City to see what three business owners having coffee had to say.
