Ellsworth Iron Chef

There was quite a bit of competition Wednesday at Ellsworth Air Force Base, but it wasn't in the field doing training.  Rather chefs and their teams took to the kitchen for the military iron chef contest.

And they say they're cooking up more than food, they say the contest is intense.

Airmen scrambled to cut up, put together and tenderize different ingredients to make a full meal in just one hour.

Ariman Reese Audette said, "After seeing all the dishes put out we were all kind of all on edge a little bit."

While some teams were slicing meat for their main meal, Audette took a different approach. His team put one of the secret ingredients, Milk Fish, into a soup hoping for an Irish theme.

"But it really didn't work out that way" said Audette.

Other teams are worked, the milk fish into their dessert.

Staff Sergeant Jarret Espiritu cays, "And that was very surprising to me they incorporated gingerbread mixture with the milk fish with the garnish and it worked out very well with the judges."

In order to finish teams multi task and an hour later, the meals come together.  Just in time for the next challenge, the judges.

But these airmen say no matter who wins it's a healthy competition.  They're cooking up in the kitchen one slice, and one meal at a time.

Airman Audette's team won the competition he says it's exciting to win, but he was nervous especially when he saw all of those fabulous plates.

The judges said all four teams did a great job.
