Act Civilized Campaign a Success

More than 16,000 people in South Dakota are texting to find out where DUI checkpoints will take place.

It's a campaign called Act Civilized which brings awareness to drinking.  DUI checkpoints are done around the area to catch those who drink and drive.  The program allows people to sign up for text messages that lets them know about checkpoints.  You can also get numbers texted to you for taxi companies, so you won't be tempted to drink and drive.

Authorities say it's a bold message.

Lieutenant David Berkley, with the South Dakota Highway Patrol, says, "Basically trying to let the public know that drinking and driving isn't an acceptable means anymore.  It's just not accepted in public."

Those with the State Patrol say they've had great success with the campaign.  They say they want the public to be aware of enforcement, and to be responsible when getting behind the wheel of a vehicle.
