YMCA Kids Campaign Kick Off

The national recession has taken its toll on many non profit organizations.  And the YMCA is no different.

More kids and students are participating in activities this year and with the Y Kids Campaign kick off on Tuesday the organization hopes it will able to bring in the additional funding.  Kids as young as six and a half are eligible to participate.  And programs are available to everyone regardless of ability to pay.

Executive Director Roger Gallimore says when students spend their time participating in activities at the Y, it helps keep them on the right track.

Gallimore says, "A few months ago we had one kid who is getting ready to graduate from Central High School and we had him come visit with a group of volunteers and he talked about the YMCA.  He received his first sponsorship when he was in the first grade.  He had been involved in programs throughout his childhood, and he stood there telling these volunteers.  He credited the YMCA for keeping him out of trouble and guiding him to where his is now: graduating from high school."

The annual cost to sponsor a child is $77.  For information on how you can help, you can visit the link or call Liz at (605) 718-YMCA.
