Census Importance

The goal is to get everyone counted, and not leave any money on the table.  Those with the US Census say that's why they're reaching out to some of their hard to count areas, like Native American tribes.

Many have already received a form in the mail but census organizers say in hard to reach areas, a census worker is actually going door to door.

This year the census also took out TV and radio ads informing Native Americans and others the importance of filling out the form.

One census official says they've had great communication with people in hard to reach places.

Max Wetz with the Census Bureau says, "And all of the tribes chose the way they wanted to be enumerated in other areas we do it in what ever might be the easiest way for people to receive the form and send it back in."

He says if someone isn't counted, that area is losing up to $400 per person.

These are critical numbers we have to live with for the next ten years.
