“Kill the Bill” Rally

As the debate over a health care reform bill draws closer to a decision by US lawmakers, citizens have turned out at rallies across the country including one right here in Rapid City.

Saturday morning, a "kill the bill" rally was held near the entrance to the Pennington County Court House.

Around 50 people turned out to protest what the group calls "the Washington takeover of health care."

Senator Gordon Howie and republican candidate for governor addressed the crowd and said the health care reform bill will increase government spending and take away constitutional rights.

“I think the first thing we need to do is kill this bill.  The second thing we need to do is bring people to the table and talk about real health care reform, and it starts by stripping away some of the regulations that's imposed by the federal government.  Things like tort reform would be significant.  There are huge opportunities to increase the accessibility of health care in this country.  We need to work on those things before we mandate a new program," says Howie.

The House could vote on the health care reform bill sometime next week.
