The South Dakota house and senate has reached an apparent impasse on plans for changing state aid to school districts.
The house earlier passed a bill that provides for no increase in state financial aid to schools next year. The senate had passed a bill that also gave schools no increase in next year’s because of the budget crisis, but would boost state aid in future years when the economy improves.
A committee of senators and representatives met Wednesday, but were unable to reach a compromise.
That means the current law, which would give schools a 1.2 percent funding boost next year, would stay in effect.
