Rapid City Stevens is heading back to the State Tournament for the first time in seven years.

The Raiders, who enter the tournament as the seventh seed, will face number two ranked Sioux Falls Roosevelt in the first round.  The two teams met twice during the regular season with Roosevelt winning both contests by an average of 16 points.

But first year head coach Donavan Deboer feels his team is clicking at the right time.

Deboer said, “I feel like we're playing our best basketball right now. I don't think we played any better at any point this season. So that's the best you can have. I don't think we've reached our full potential. But I think that comes with the fact that this is our first year at this program. Our first year with some of these kids, if we would of  had them a couple of years, it might be different. I still think we can get better."

Senior Guard Lindsey Schmidt says, "We definitely need strong defense. Defense wins championships. So we need strong defense and our post play has always been really good. But hopefully us guards can go out there and get the job done too."

Stevens enters the AA tournament with a 14-8 record while Roosevelt is 18-3.

The Raiders will play at 6:00 P.M. Thursday followed by Central and Huron.
