There are 2,500 South Dakotans entitled to a federal tax refund from 2006, in fact there's just over $2-million that hasn't been claimed.
One local tax preparer says it's hard to imagine that much money is out there waiting. She says it's a combination of people either not filing or filing incorrect. But don't worry there's still time.
"And they have until April 15th 2010 to go back and amend or to actually file their 2006 return to claim a refund" says Nicole Ossenfort of Liberty Tax.
Those with the IRS say there's no penalty for filing a return that's due a refund.
Any unclaimed money after three years will be turned over to the US Treasury.
