Summerset Zoning Meeting

Hundreds of people in Meade County gathered Thursday to hear about a special zoning area around the city of Summerset.

Organizers say it'll protect the city from unwanted development.

The zoning would create rules developers would have to follow before building.

While some say the zoning is good idea because they want to keep Summerset like it is, others in neighboring communities say they're concerned about the possibility of being annexed into Summerset.

And that's something many are against.

“We're just trying to find out what is being done what the actual reasoning is behind it and how we're actually going to be pulled into that to see what's going to happen," says Shaun Slovek of Meade County.

“Well, we original came down thinking that it might be partially part of annexation with Summerset, but then knowing they're doing barriers for the districts ended up being a better deal," says Kris Finck of Meade County.

Deputy Planning Director Bill Rich says the special zoning isn't being proposed to annex land.

Rather to protect the city of Summerset.

The zoning could be approved in May by Meade County commissioners.
