They're in their forties and two Hot Springs men with disabilities are standing up for themselves and taking their message across the state of South Dakota.
Earlier this week was the premiere of their documentary “Breaking Shells.” It's about making decisions for themselves.
It's a journey that took Art Butcher and Steve Dallman, along with their friend Bob, over 5,000 miles throughout the state of South Dakota.
From Yankton to Chamberlain, and even Huron, both Art and Steve say this trip like this is one they've never quite been on before, but talking about their message of independence despite disabilities is important.
Art Butcher says, "If you run your own meeting, you run your own life."
And he says running your own life may sound simple, but for someone with a disability, it's a different story. Often times their voice isn’t' heard.
Bob Mavre says, "So they basically stood up for themselves and said yeah I want to do some things differently."
And on the night of their big premiere, their message is popping over and over in the minds of viewers.
It's a dream come true. And now in their forties, they plan to keep living that dream thanks to the support of their friend Bob, and many others across the Rushmore state.
Both Art and Steve say they'll continue to travel and even encourage college students to work with people with disabilities one day.
