In July the Cash for Clunkers program took off, getting old cars off the road, and jump-starting a sluggish car market.
Now, Cash for Appliances is about to begin.
Government officials are hoping Energy Star appliances will replace old, inefficient appliances.
The mail-in rebate program kicks off on Monday and will go until the state runs out of its more than $770,000 budget.
Local stores are getting ready for the rush.
“The $770,000 is there and once it's gone it's gone, so it's basically on a first come first serve basis so, we've been getting a lot of calls here of late, and people they're going to do it," says Frank Roost, manager at Karl’s.
Clothes washers can be cashed in for $100, dishwashers for $75, refrigerators and freezers for $150, and water heaters for $125.
Monday, Karl’s is opening up early at 7:00 a.m. to be ready for customers.
