The new school in Piedmont will cost about 20 percent less than the original estimate.
The Meade School Board has approved bids totaling $11.6 million, down from the original estimate of $14.2 million.
Officials say alternates for paving, air conditioning and food service contributed to the lower cost. Four classrooms in the original plans also were scrapped.
The new building will accommodate 624 students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
Construction should be complete at the end of July.
