Stock Show Down in Sales

It's one of the biggest economic events of the year, but this time around the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo didn't bring in as many people as officials had hoped for.

Dirt from the Don Barnett Arena is slowly being removed from this year’s Stock Show.

The Civic Center manager says there was a 7 percent decrease of ticket sales and there was about a 9 percent decrease of overall foot traffic.

Civic Center Manager, Brian Maliske, said, "Some folks that were selling trailers and steel were pretty pleased with their sales coming out.  I had some other vendors that were selling clothes that were a little disappointed in their sales.  I think it mattered what you were selling as to what your sales were.  But, overall I think the folks came in thinking, 'We've got a real down economy, things are going to be tough.' And they came away thinking 'wow, that was pretty good show.'”
