BH Stock Show Wraps Up

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and that is the case with the 2010 Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo.

The event wrapped up Sunday afternoon after ten days of action at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

Although the final numbers haven't been tallied yet, organizers say numbers are down compared to last year's record-breaking year.

According to Ron Jeffries, general manager of the Stock Show, the weather played a factor in both attendance and vendor sales this year.

“We had a little bit of weather.  Obviously we had some power lines down and some problems in the northern part of the state.  Had some vehicles that didn't come down from North Dakota or up from Colorado.  So, definitely weather impacted us to the start and I think with the storm on Thursday, it hit us pretty hard again too," says Jeffries.

"I tell you, this is still by far the biggest show we do out of the year, and if you take away last year, this would’ve been our record year.  So, it's always tough to compare yourself to record years.  It was a fantastic show.  It was a fantastic run," says Brian Maliske of the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

Now that the Stock Show is over, crews are working around the clock to clean every inch of the Civic Center.
