Governor Mike Rounds says he pushed for steps that would help South Dakota develop ethanol plants and wind power when he met Wednesday with President Barack Obama and other federal officials.
Rounds says he asked that federal agencies consider
Allowing existing power lines, such as those at hydropower plants at Missouri River dams, to be used to carry power generated by wind farms.
“Wind development in South Dakota started at about 8-mega watts back in '02 and since that time in Oct., we're at 320-mega watts but we have a huge capacity for more wind generation," says Rounds.
The Governor also says he was assured that rules taking into account land use changes in other countries will not be used to hurt Midwestern ethanol plants.
He says he urged federal officials to move fuel standards from 10 percent ethanol blends to 15 percent.
