Rounds Chats Energy with Obama

Governor Mike Rounds was one of several governors at the White House Wednesday, talking with President Barack Obama about energy.

Obama is hoping to earn their support for a languishing energy bill and to bolster his image as a leader willing to work with Republicans as well as Democrats.

Obama announced new steps to increase the role of biofuels in powering the nation and to release a report detailing how Washington could increase investments in green technologies.

"As I said at the State of the Union, I'm not going to settle for a situation where the United States comes in second place or third place or fourth place in what will be the most important economic engine in the future.  Now, there's no reason we shouldn't be able to work together in a bipartisan way to get this done,” said President Obama.

The president also discussed so-called clean coal technologies.

Rounds has long talked about South Dakota being a leader in energy alternatives.
