Red Cross Still in Action

Power and water have been restored to most of South Dakota that was hit by the recent ice storm.

And members of the Black Hills Red Cross went up to Eagle Butte Sunday to see what additional support they could provide.

Ice-caked power lines have been fixed and power restored, but those with the Red Cross say there is still work to be done to help people who lost power in the first place.

While some people are waiting for their water to be turned on, others with water and power are dealing with broken pipes.

Richard Smith, of Black Hills Red Cross said, "Now they're seeing broken pipes, because their houses have been cold for so long the water pipes have frozen so now there is some additional work that has to take place to get them back on their feet that way."

Monday, students from the Pine Ridge Middle School brought a donation of $424 they had raised for those in the Eagle Butte area.

Students say this donation is important because they are helping their neighbors and sending a message.

The students raised the money in just one day.
