Farmers and ranchers at the Black Hills Stock Show say the national recession has hit their industry especially hard.
Ranchers say the low price of livestock and the continued rise in costs are making it even hard to make a profit, which is where the Stockgrowers Association comes in.
Kenny Fox, President of the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association, said, "We work on state issues in the state legislature. We have policy book and several issues anywhere form livestock to taxation, education and it's important to know what’s going on. If there is an issue in Pierre then we have member alerts here to help educate people."
Those with the South Dakota Stockgrowers say the more farmers and ranchers work together to change policy the better profits the industry will have.
