Last year, the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo brought more than 300,000 people to the area, and area businesses welcome that economic boost.
The events bring in millions of dollars to the Black Hills area.
According to the Convention and Visitors Bureau many hotels are already booked for the upcoming Stock Show weekends.
The more people that come to the area, the more money that will flow into our local economy during the slow winter months.
“There's probably about 100,000 people that are from out of town, staying in our hotels, eating in our restaurants, shopping going to a few of the attractions that are still open such as the Journey Museum. So the economic impact is well over $37 million,” says Michelle Lintz the Rapid City CVB Executive Director.
To expand the economic impact of the Stock Show the trolley will be running between downtown and the Civic Center.
The trolley ride is free. This is the first year it will be running during the Stock Show and organizers hope this will encourage more people to experience more of Rapid City.
“If you bring people downtown and you give them a way to get there, and of course it is free, they will shop they will look at things. There’s a lot of things to look at, at the Stock Show but however, after you've done that a few days, and some people are here four and five days you're looking for something else to do,” says Dan Senftner, Director of Destination Rapid City.
The trolley will pick up passengers outside the theater entrance of the Civic Center and drop them off on the corner of Sixth and Main Street
The trolley will run this Friday and Saturday and Thursday through Saturday Feb. 4 to the 6th.
The downtown pick up times are 12:15 p.m., 2:15 p.m., and 4:15 p.m.
