Red Cross Busy with Black Hills Emergencies

Between providing shelter for people struggling with power outages and two Black Hills-area fires, it's been a busy weekend for the American Red Cross.

The Red Cross responded to an early morning house fire in Sturgis Sunday that engulfed a home off of Elk Vale Road.

The Red Cross is helping the owner with food and clothing.

And firefighters remained on scene of an apartment fire for more than six hours on Sunday in Lead.

That fire destroyed an apartment building on Prospect Avenue.

Lead’s fire chief believes the cause may have been a candle.

The occupant suffered minor burns.

With temperatures dropping and an increase in the number of power outages, the American Red Cross is urging everyone to take extra precautions in home heating.
