Governor Mike Rounds says South Dakota could more easily balance its budget if it received more money from the federal government to help pay for Medicaid.
Before delivering his State of the State Address to kick off the legislature's 2010 session, the Republican governor said Congress is considering providing states with extra money to help defray increases in Medicaid spending.
Rounds said additional federal aid might allow South Dakota to avoid using reserves to balance the next state budget. However, the governor said the legislature can't count on the extra money. But, he says it's not all bad news.
South Dakota Republican Governor Mike Rounds says, “Fifty-seven companies are expanding to SD; 72 percent are from SD. We have also developed 380 new prospects for future growth and relocation but beyond business and government effort, there have efforts by people to help their relatives, friends, neighbors, and strangers to survive these tough times.”
