The South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks Department is evaluating walk-in hunting areas to determine the effectiveness of the program and how hunters use those areas.
Walk-in areas are private lands leased for public hunting opportunities.
More than 1 million acres are enrolled in the program.
The GF&P began evaluating 91 walk-in areas along 10 routes during the past hunting season.
Survey cards were placed on windshields of parked cars along survey routes, and hunters were asked to fill in the cards and drop them in the mail.
The survey will wrap up at the end of Jan. Some hunters also will be asked to complete an online survey.
