State corrections secretary Tim Reisch says there's not a lot of wiggle room in the governor's budget proposal for the prison system.
The governor's proposed budget to the legislature has about $1 million less than the corrections department requested.
Reisch said a key to living within the budget is to help inmates stay out of trouble upon their release so they don't return to prison.
The department will use federal funds for a three-year program to help paroled prisoners find jobs and a place to live, and to complete substance abuse programs.
