Travel is going to be nearly impossible over the Christmas weekend, especially on the eastern side of the state.
The secretary to the Department of Public Safety is asking all South Dakotans to stay put this Christmas weekend.
The entire state of South Dakota is expected to get a dangerous winter storm. Light snow fall and freezing drizzle is expected to just continue to get worse over night and through the weekend.
Wind gusts up to 40 miles an hour and double digit snowfalls are expected in parts of the state.
Tom Dravland says, "One of the difficulties we have with this storm is it's going to cover the entire state. That's going to stress our resources."
In Rapid City, the police department has responded to a number of power outages and as a result several traffic signal lights are out, so police ask everyone to use caution when approaching a light that is not in use. When in doubt treat each light as a four way stop.
